Financial assistance

Emergency Financial Assistance

Yad Chessed helps pay for basic needs, including bills related to rent, mortgage payments, utilities, and emergency food. These emergency payments are critical for immediate wellbeing, as well as preventing greater challenges like an eviction or heat shut off. We can also provide help for time-sensitive matters like medical co-payments, essential car repairs or unexpected housing-related expenses.

Food support

Food Support

The rising cost of living is pushing more people into food insecurity, including in our Jewish community. Yad Chessed provides grocery gift cards or grocery vouchers to almost 2,000 individuals and families in need each year. Grocery gift cards mean our clients retain the dignity of choice and independence in their food shopping. In particular, we ensure during the Jewish holidays that all have what they need to observe and celebrate.

Guidance and referrals

Guidance and Referrals

Financial hardship is stressful, complicated, and difficult to navigate alone. Yad Chessed’s Social Work team offers expert and compassionate guidance, budget counseling, and referrals for other relevant services and benefits. Social Worker guidance also allows us to maximize the benefits available to each client, from locating rental assistance by town to help applying to public food benefits (like SNAP).

Special circumstances

Special Circumstances

Each person’s story, challenges, and needs are different. Our team of social workers collaborates closely with each client to understand what their most pressing needs are, which can vary widely. Yad Chessed offers assistance for a range of unique needs, for which there is little other assistance available, including: helping with the expense of a Jewish funeral, specialized medicine, costs associated with service pets, dental work, and more.
